Back, neck and shoulder massage

Back, neck and shoulders: we start from what you're feeling and where you need attention. A massage to release knots and tension, with pressure and pace agreed with you.

First time: I recommend 90 minutes. If you'd rather start with something shorter, 60 minutes works very well too.

Who it's for

  • If you hold tension in your back, neck or shoulders.
  • If your back feels tense at the end of the day and you need a pause.
  • If you know where you want attention, without having to choose a technique.

You're not here to suffer

If you're looking for a massage to release knots, the starting point is what you feel: where the tension is and how you'd like us to work on it.

Your breathing helps me recognise when to hold the touch, wait or ease off. I want you to be able to receive the massage without tensing up or holding your breath. I work with the tension gradually, paying attention to your comfort.

The back doesn't end at the shoulders

We can work on the whole back, including the lower back, as well as the neck and shoulders. If you ask, we can also give some attention to your arms and hands.

The massage can combine strokes, sustained touch and moments of rest. What you tell me and what I sense with my hands guide where we spend more time.

With 90 minutes we have more time, without a list of mandatory extra areas. If it makes sense for you, we can connect the back with the hips or combine back and legs: we agree on it beforehand.

If there's a specific pain, tell me beforehand

You don't need to name a technique to come. It does help me to know if you have a specific discomfort, an injury or any professional advice I should be aware of.

If what you need is clinical care, I'll point you towards a physiotherapist. My work is not a substitute for that care.

What if I want Deep Tissue?

Deep Tissue is the name of a way of working, not a part of the body. You can also have it on your back: what sets it apart is slow touch, with sustained pressure and little joint movement.

If that's exactly the approach you're after, take a look at my Deep Tissue massage. If what you're clear about is where you feel tension, we start from there and talk about how you'd like to work on it.

FAQs

Questions about the back massage

60 or 90 minutes?

For a first visit I recommend 90 minutes: it gives us time to get to know each other and work on your back without rushing. If you've been before or would prefer a shorter session, you can choose 60. More about session length in the FAQs.

Is it a massage for knots and tension?

Yes, if you're looking to work on tension in your back, neck and shoulders. We start from what you feel and work on it without you having to put up with pain. If you'd prefer deep, sustained work to be the focus of the massage, you can choose the Deep Tissue massage.

Does it include the lower back too?

Yes. We can work on the whole back, including the lower back. We agree where it's worth spending more time, rather than splitting the time equally between all areas.

Can I ask for arms and hands?

Yes, we can include them if you ask. We talk about it to plan the time and keep the focus on what brought you here.

Can we combine back and legs?

We can agree on that. I recommend 90 minutes so we have more time, and that you tell me before you book. Combining areas doesn't mean covering them all with the same depth.

Do I have to put up with pressure that bothers me?

No. You can ask for less pressure, a pause or for me to stop working on an area at any time. You don't need to hold your breath or tense up to receive the massage.
